These speakers have a great clear sound with low light. Although it will rattle all the books off the shelves with the bass on these, the speakers do not sound very "full". Fresh and clean. I just plug in external speakers with an external volume control. I did not want to spend too much money on the external speakers, but I wanted to sound decent. I went with the Phoenix Gold IHS6W 6.5-inch woofer and a 25mm tweeter. I found this to be the biggest bass in this price range and it was exactly what I was looking for. The speakers were less white than black, and I took everything apart and sprayed on the outside of my house the same. They sound great, better than I thoughtthey wanted.
